  Anatomy and Physiology
NEW ENHANCED FORMAT!

This is great text for an undergraduate, two-semester course in A&P.  The topics are divided into smaller chapters to make it easier to read and use . . . and students tell us it is written in a very easy-to-understand manner.

There are a lot of "extras" like transparent overlays for "virtual dissections," an included separated photo atlas, an included small Quick Guide to the Language of Science and Medicine, and more.  Includes a FREE eBook version that can be searched . . . or highlighted and used to make "personal study guide" made up of the highlighted parts!

  Study Guide for
Anatomy and Physiology

This is the study guide that goes with the text described above.

  Laboratory Manual for
Anatomy and Physiology
NOW IN FULL COLOR!

This lab manual is for two-semester courses and can either be used with the text described above, or with any other text.

Features include step-by-step instructions that are simple and complete and formatted to be followed quickly and accurately in a lab situation.  Can be used with humans, cats, pigs, rats, and or organ dissections (or no dissections). Features integrated, optional coloring exercises.

It has an EXTENSIVE teacher's guide with hints, pitfalls, cheap substitutions, supply lists, and more!

Structure and Function of the Body

Everyone's favorite one-semester A&P text!

Simple and straightforward summary of the principle concepts of anatomy and physiology presented in a very student-friendly format and style.

Popular with technical health programs, athletic/phys ed programs, and alternative health professions.

  Study Guide for
Structure and Function of the Body

Study guide to go along with the text described above.

The Human Body in Health and Disease

Another popular one-semester A&P book.  This one is just like Structure & Function of the Body described above but with added content in pathophysiology.  This book helps the teacher incorporate essential clinical and patho concepts into the A&P course.  It's also a great book for generated interest in the course by clearly showing the clinical applications of basic human science.

  Study Guide for
The Human Body in Health and Disease

Study guide for the text described above.

  Laboratory Manual for
Seely, Stephens, and Tate's
Essentials of Anatomy and Physiology

A one-semester lab manual designed for Seely, et al.'s "Essentials" textbook but can be used easily with any textbook, such as Structure and Function of the Body or Human Body in Health and Disease.

Features integrated, optional coloring exercises and a very user-friendly format.

Mosby's Handbook of Anatomy and Physiology

A quick reference to all the major structures and functions of the body.  Includes summary tables and full color diagrams.

This is great for taking to lab class!  Use is outside of A&P class in your clinicals, for a quick reference to what you forgot from your A&P course!

Also useful as a handy reference for the human body for insurance professionals, police, firefighters, EMTs, artists, and many others.

Survival Guide for Anatomy and Physiology

A compact pocket-sized book that combines a brief and useful "how to succeed" manual with a core of handy quick-reference charts and diagrams for understanding A&P easily.

Includes student-tested ways to make studying A&P easier and go faster!  Also includes helpful analogies (many with cartoons) for difficult to understand concepts.

  Mosby's Anatomy Coloring Book

Yeah, it seems like you're back in preschool I guess, but this is a great way to study human structure. Really.

Studies show that coloring in the diagrams helps you learn body parts faster and more thoroughly . . . and improves your ability to accurately recall the information!

  The Anatomy Coloring Book

One of the books that started the whole coloring book thing, this one was originally designed for medical students.

Similar to the Mosby coloring book described above, but much more comprehensive and detailed.

  Netter's Atlas of Human Anatomy

This famous collection of medical images in anatomy is now available in a student-friendly edition.

  Gray's Anatomy

This classic text has been recently updated and expanded to be an awesome reference book for any A&P teacher . . . or a student who want to go the extra mile (and a half).

Netter's Atlas of Human Anatomy, Professional Edition

This version of Netter's essential anatomy illustrations also includes the images on CD, which could be helpful for classroom presentations.

  Terminologia Anatomica
YOU HAVE TO HAVE THIS ONE!

This is the official list published by the International Federation of Associations of Anatomy (IFAA) group governing antomical terminology (FCAT, Federative Committee on Anatomical Terminology).

Without the acronyms, it is the "official list" of anatomical terms and lists each part by number, Latin name, and English name.  Also includes a list of eponyms (which are now eliminated from official terminology) and shows the current accepted term.

  Pocket Atlas of Human Anatomy

This is a handy manual of labeled diagrams, all based on the Terminologia Anatomica described above.  These two resources are essential for quick reference based on modern terminology.

  Terminologica Histologica

This the official international list of terms related to cells (cytology) and tissues (histology).

Another "must have" reference tool in your personal library!

  Guyton's Textbook of Medical Physiology

This is a classic physiology text used in graduate and medical physiology programs.

Even though it's considered "classic" is kept thoroughly up to date.

  Berne and Levy's
Physiology

A popular physiology text for graduate and medical courses, it's a great reference for teachers of undergrad A&P courses.

  Stiff

My students LOVE this book. Well, those that have opted to read it.

It's a reporter's look at what happens to our body when we are done using it.  Includes chapters on medical research, nonmedical research, funeral practices, and more.

The author makes the subject interesting and easy to read, occasionally using humor to diffuse our cultural repulsion to things related to dead bodies.

  The Gift of Pain

Another favorite of my students, I highly highly highly recommend this book to anyone considering a career in the health professions.

The book is an autobiography of a gifted and inspiring physician who spent much of his long career studying and treating leprosy.  It not only shows the often-overlooked importance of pain, it also addresses important issues of compassion and modern health care practice.

It won an award for "inspirational books" and it's an easy read.  Click on the Amazon link to see other editions, including audio.

Genome: The Autobiography of a Species in 23 Chapters

This is an excellent update on why genetics and genomics is important for everyone.

Ridley picks a different concept to explore in each of 23 chapters, each chapter using an example of the concept from one of the 23 human chromosome pairs.

Everybody should read this book!

Cells, Gels, and the Engines of Life

This is a great book for those interested in exploring new concepts of the cell.  This book outlines a major alternative view of cell structure and function.

It assumes that you know basic cell structure and function, then shows you how what you think you know may not necessarily be so!  Really, really interesting.

  Salt

I listened to the audio version in my car.  Other drivers probably wondered why I was driving with my mouth wide open.  It was astonishment.

This "history of salt" makes my puny speech in A&P about the importance of sodium chloride in the body seem like I'm purposely hiding something.

This is interesting not only to science buffs, but also history and food buffs, as well.

  Skin: A Natural History

A new book on the largest organ in the body. Includes interesting, full color illustrations.

  Prime Mover

This is a great book for those interested in muscle function and mechanics.  It's about science, yeah, but written in a very easy to read, nontechnical way.

A lot of interesting facts about muscles and how they work, giving you a whole different perspective!
